Positive News is a solution-focused newspaper, reporting on people and initiatives creating a sustainable, just and fulfilling world. It aims to inform, inspire and empower its readers, while helping create a more responsible and balanced media. It has brought stories of positive change to hundreds of thousands of people and increasingly, inspiring other media as well.
Positive News is to become the first crowdfunded global media cooperative – and invites readers to buy ‘community shares’ during a 30-day crowdfunding campaign.
It recognises the need to innovate to become financially sustainable and to meet the growing demand for its journalism – and just as it has pioneered a more positive form of journalism, it’s now pioneering a new way to run a media business.
Much of the news media is owned by a handful of corporations and proprietors. Instead, by becoming a cooperative, Positive News will be owned by hundreds or thousands of people. It will then be ultimately accountable to its readers, ensuring that it always reports in their interests.
Between now and 8 July, its readers, journalists, supporters and everyone around the world (provided they’re age 16 or over) can buy shares in Positive News. By converting into a cooperative and issuing community shares, it aims to raise a minimum of £200,000 to secure and grow the organisation.
The first £76,000 has been reached in 4 days and of course no money is taken if the target is not reached. Minimum investment £50.
