The Co-operative news reports that since 2007 the East of England Co-operative has brought its range of local products under a ‘Sourced Locally’ banner.

.Our farming readers will value, in particular, its resolves:

  • to trade fairly and honestly with local producers
  • to generate sustainable revenue for local producers and the society

A food producer/supplier who gets a fair deal

The co-op has bought potatoes from Robert Strathern, from Fairfields Farm near Colchester, for some years.

He comments: “We are really pleased that our relationship with the East of England Co-op has proved so successful, and this has helped us to take on five new staff.”

If all the co-op’s suppliers are just as satisfied, it offers a model to be publicised.
